Vessel "Dole"

The vessel “Dole” is a historic fishing vessel in Pāvilosta, commemorating the town’s fishing traditions and the activities of the “Dzintarjūra” fishing collective farm in the mid-20th century. It was built in the 1970s at a shipyard in Rostock, German Democratic Republic (East Germany), and was used for cod fishing in the Baltic Sea.

“Dole” belongs to the RB type of fishing vessels, which were common in Pāvilosta’s fishing fleet during the 1950s and 1960s. The vessel is 18.2 metres long, 5.22 metres wide and 2.5 metres high.

To preserve this historic fishing vessel, it was donated to the Pāvilosta Local History Museum. With support from the State Culture Capital Foundation, the vessel was restored in 2005 and became a tourist attraction. Today, it stands in the centre of Pāvilosta, near the bridge over the Saka River, serving as a memorial to local fishermen and the town’s maritime heritage.
